Hugh Aston Building Extension Completed

Carrying out the design and installation of electrical services for Clegg Construction Ltd, the Hugh Aston Building is the first scheme we have undertaken for De Montfort University in Leicester.

The building’s four story extension provides more than 22,000 sqm of additional space and is part of the university’s master plan to create a first class campus.

The new building, named The Yard, provides extra space for learning, resources and commercial activities, and is positioned in the centre of the De Montfort University campus. Working with the university, we ensured minimal disruption during the installation of electrical services to the new extension. Our full in-house BIM capabilities aided with the coordination of services and internal 3D design has been vital to working within the limited space.

Originally with a completion date in May 2020, a brief pause due to COVID-19 moved the opening date to August 2020 as increased safety compliance was implemented.

Earlier this year we also installed photovoltaic panels onto the roof, providing the building with a steady source of sustainable energy to supplement the main electrical supplies.

With the new building already welcoming students this academic year, it’s great to showcase our education sector expertise through the delivery of another university project.
