Morecrofts Secure Third Nottingham-Based Student Accommodation Scheme, Island Quarter
Morecrofts have secured the order for the design & installation of electrical services to a new 702-bedroomed student accommodation scheme. The huge site forms part of Island Quarter, Conygar’s flagship development in Nottingham that plans to reimagine 36 acres of the city.
This major scheme was awarded to Morecrofts by main contractor, Bowmer & Kirkland and follows on from the success of the joint, award-winning Space Park project for the University of Leicester.
Island Quarter’s Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) will reach up to 12 stories tall and will feature accommodation types including studios and cluster living – freeing up family homes currently used by students.
Morecrofts’ MD, Jared Mitchell commented; “When complete, this contract will take our running total to over 5,000 bedrooms of student accommodation. The sector continues to be buoyant and our successful experience in completing many larger schemes, mainly within the Midlands and London / South East, ensures we are in a great position to continue this trajectory.”
This portfolio of student accommodation projects includes a 525-bedroom scheme on Traffic Street in Nottingham, which is nearing completion, and a 325-bedroom scheme on Talbot Street in Nottingham, which was completed last year. Island Quarter is Morecrofts third project of this kind within the world-renowned university city. It is also the second of two fantastic Nottingham schemes recently awarded by B&K Group, the first being Power Park – 420,000 square feet of warehouse and industrial space.
