Morecrofts-supported Jay Clarke hitting the headlines

Derby’s young tennis sensation Jay Clarke, who Morecrofts have supported over the last 12 months, has made big strides in his quest to become a World top 100 player.

Clarke, who started 2017 at number 526th in the world, has fought his way up to his best ever position of 213th in the world and also become Britain’s number 4 at only 19 years old. This year’s accomplishments have seen Jay win his first Challenger event in Doha as well as beating a number of top 100 players. His finest victory came in June 2018 with the demolition of world number 58 Ryan Harrison at Eastbourne’s pre-Wimbledon ATP 250 event.

Jay also played his first ATP event at Queens club, losing to world number 12 Sam Querry. Jay then went on to have a fantastic Wimbledon, losing his singles match to ex world number 10 Ernest Gulbis in 5 hard sets, followed by defeat in the men’s doubles partnered with Britain’s number 2 Cam Norrie. Jay then went on to the Semi-Finals of the mixed doubles with Britain’s Harriet Dart and lost to Andy Murray’s brother Jamie and ex world number 1 Victoria Azerenka. A fantastic achievement in Jay’s first Wimbledon.
